All is Calm, All is Bright

Becca is fine. We are all fine. Becca is acting like nothing ever happened, happier and less whiny than she has been in weeks (thank you, antibiotics!) We saw her pediatrician who assured me that I did not cause the seizure, I couldn't cause something like that, no matter how warm the blanket or how high the household thermostat, and that there is absolutely nothing I can do to prevent a future one. Even if I dose her up with Motrin at the first hint of a fever, there is nothing to prove that would prevent another febrile seizure. It is harmless. It does not cause any brain damage at all. Becca won't be emotinoally scarred. It is relatively common. There is a 70% chance it will never happen to her again. Kids outgrow the tendency as they age. Becca is perfectly healthy. But I just cannot stop re-hashing every minute of that morning, second guessing myself about small things I wish I had done differently....wishing I had caused less worry for others....

But! That is not the purpose of this post! The purpose of this post is to focus on the good. And, there is lots of good. Everything is going well. We are blessed beyond measure with our health and happiness.

My dad was here for a day and a half. He took Becca and Canyon on an adventure walk where they found a big, hairy spider that lives under our drain spout, and some nasty slugs who also reside there. Becca followed him around the house, asking "Where's Grandpa?" anytime he left the room. John took the day off and we went out for lunch with Tracy and her girls before Becca's doctor appointment. Then, we came home and I took a two-hour nap of such depth that when I woke up I was disoriented, dizzy and confused. I think I was finally relaxing. (Thank you, pediatrician!) Then, we went out for dinner and had steamed crabs, Maryland style. But, the waitress said the crabs were actually from Texas. Dad could have just stayed home to get them! We had a great dinner, though, and Becca stayed in her high chair and had great manners, flirting with all the waitstaff.

This morning, Becca and I drove my dad down to D.C. where he has business meetings the rest of the weekend. We stopped in at National Geographic to see some exhibits. Becca watched Barney videos the whole way back (Thank you, portable DVD player!) and then went down for a nap. Life is back to normal. Life is better than normal. I am glad.

Might be better if Becca had Grandpa on a leash. :-)

What a neat guy your dad is. The girls are still talking about him and his dog drawing. He has so much patience. I am sure it wasn't near long enough for him to visit. Becca seemed to have fun too.

Yay! Thank goodness. I'm glad all is well, and that you even had family in town to help you celebrate Becca's return to feeling normal.

Phew! So glad Becca is okay and that YOU are okay. I have been thinking of you and wondering if I would handle that situation half as well as you. I don't think I would...

BUT, when I saw that first picture of Becca & your Dad, I thought you had Becca on a leash! Seriously. Then I saw the other photos and realized it was Canyon. Duh. But hey, I totally wouldn't judge you if you put your toddler on a leash. I am this close to doing so.

Tracy,

Didn't I do a great job of choosing Becca's grandpa?

Nana,
ABSOLUTELY! Any man who has that kind of patience AND WANTS/ASKS to take his grandkids?? Wow!! Do you need anymore? I have two more you can share!

That's great that everything is better than normal! And, I'm a little envious of your location. I know that I have a good current home location, but it is only temporary. I would love to be so near parts of the East coast for the long term, I mean.

Isn't always so great to have your dad around. I love his burnt orange hat in the first picture...didn't you say your father worked at UT?
