Tales From the Crypt

I hate being sick. I am a huge whining baby when I'm sick. I have some sort of terrible head/chest/throat cold that is pissing me off. I can't breathe through my nose, my throat is ragged, so breathing through my mouth hurts, my cough sounds like I'm dying and the sinus pain. My god! I didn't know sinuses could be such little bitches. I hate those little snot-filled cavities with a burning hatred of a million hot suns.

I have hardly been able lift my head off the couch or bed for about two days. Today I can actually sit up for more than 10 minutes, so I think the worst is over. Poor Becca has done nothing but watch TV for days. She has been very good to me lately taking some nice, long naps. I think she has enjoyed me just sitting in the same room as her instead of frantically running around the house trying to get stuff done.

Instead, nothing has gotten done (unless John has done it). My goals have been to keep the used tissues from piling up in too grotesque a manner. Other than that, everything has gone to hell in a handbasket. Becca had instant oatmeal for dinner last night. I can't remember the last time I gave that girl a vegetable. The dog hair level on the carpets has reached Critical Mass. I did manage to change the sheets on our bed after John witnessed me sneezing right into them. Gross. I feel like I need to open all the windows and Lysol the entire place. I'll get right on that, after a long nap, of course.

At least John has been home to help take care of things...and you! The worst is when you're sick and you're the only adult in sight to care for your child.

Hope you get back to feeling like your normal self :)

Girl, I feel your pain!! It is painful and LONG lived. I still feel like something is trying to hammer out from the inside of my head and i have been fighting it for a week. Ben comes back today, so I have to get the sickies out of this house so he can get back to work this week. Cleaning while sick - lame.

Im so sorry!!!!!!

From one sinus sufferer to another - drink lots and lots of hot liquids!!

I've been really digging drinking hot broth--just a Chicken (Herb Ox) cube dissolved in water. I'm sure it is just pure sodium...but it tastes so good!

Ugh! I'm sorry. Drink lots of liquids, even if they are full of sodium! Anything to get better FAST.

My mom suggested to me a few days ago to put Vick's Vapor rub on your feet and then put your socks on (at night). This is to quiet the cough. I tried it on my youngest son (age 2) for two nights and it works!! He was coughing all night and it sounded terrible. It kept me and him up all night. I told my friend Holly about it on Wednesday night and she tried it on her 4 year old daughter... it worked for her too!!!

Just thought I would offer that for you and for Becca when you get the cough again.

Rest, rest. Everything else will (unfortunately) wait.

I have heard of that vicks on the feet thing before. That is SO weird. I can't imagine HOW that could possibly work, but I've heard people swear by it!

I've been rubbing that stuff all over my chest and I can't even smell it! (You know you're clogged up when you can't smell the Vicks!)

I'm a huge baby when sick too. Sorry you're under the weather. Spicy stuff is my friend when my nose is blocked up. Clears it up for a few minutes at least. Feel better!

I caught every cold and/or stomach virus that went around during my husband's 16-months in Iraq. I got a double ear infection so bad, the ENT I saw told me it wasn't a viral ear infection, it was an ear disease in which I was going deaf (second opinion revealed he was wrong). Tired of being constantly sick, I turned to homopathics. Here's my new regiment that seems to have helped a lot in the past year: Zicam nasel gel at the FIRST sign of a sore throat or the beginnings of a cold. I use it every 4-6hrs. for a week or until cold is gone. The zinc throat drops lozenges do NOT work. Get the Zicam gel and use it as directed. Seriously, have not got a full-blown snotty head-cold in nearly a year. My colds don't make it much past he sore throat phase and I swear it's b/c of my diligent Zicam usage. I also drink Yogi Tea Triple Echinacea one-two times daily during cold/flu season (as in right now). I want to start probiotic pills to ward off stomach viruses. It's like eating a zillion yogurts in one day. When all the kids here had the flu and/or colds, I went to the health food store and got an immune booster serum for Olivia. Lila's too young to take it b/c she's not two. Lila got really sick with a fever and snotty nose. The girls swapped sippy cups during th worst of Lila's fever and Olivia did not get sick. I swear by the immune booster I gave her (This is used every day for a week each month during cold season). So, high tail it to the health food store, get echinacea drops in kid form (or a kid immune booster) and adult form (or tea). Get probiotics in kid and adult form, and some Zicam. I think you can use the Zicam gel for Becca since she's now two. Get lots of sleep, take Sudafed during the day and hang in there. To help w/cough and sore throats, the kds & I eat a tablespoon of honey a few times daily. I'd also recommend an excellent throat spray that kills a sore throat in 24-hrs.- but, the US doesn't sell it yet. Sorry. Good luck. Feel better.

My goodness...there are so many people from work with the same thing. Well, I don't think you need to be doing much of anything other than looking after your tissue pile. It's good to hear Becca is giving you a break while you're getting better. Being sick STINKS...I'll say a prayer for you to get better.
