New Life

I had my first O.B. appointment today (about two weeks behind schedule, but that's how it goes with second pregnancies, I suppose). Everything looks good and they found the baby's heartbeat (going 158 beats per minute). The little bugger kicked the doppler wand and moved around a lot. I feel pretty relaxed about everything, despite the referral to a perinatal expert with the box checked next to "High Risk Pregnancy." I am choosing to just think of it as an opportunity for another (very in-depth) ultrasound! There is absolutely nothing I can do about Fifth Disease thing, so I am chilling out about it.

I have choir tonight. Becca is watching Snow White (for the 3rd time today). The daffodils are about to bloom in the front yard. I'm cooking salmon for dinner. Days are going by, although we are all still mourning Canyon and looking for her behind doors and in her usual places. Thank you all for your kind words on the last post. That really meant a lot to John and me and we took great comfort in reading all your comments.

You gotta love in depth ultra sounds. A far cry from your last pregnancy and the doctors there. Did they even have a perinatal expert in AK? Looks like you are in the right place at the right time!

Yeah, I don't think we have a perinatal expert anywhere around here. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Fairbanks is a little behind the power curve (but slowly catching up).

Glad to hear the little booger has a strong beat. That's always so reassuring to hear for the first time.

Glad to hear all went well with the babes. Sounds like a strong one too - maybe boy!?
It is nice there is some good to go along with the bad these days. It makes the days seem a little brighter.

I'm glad that you are able to chill about everything. I'm thinking in Alaska, you would have received a free trip to Washington. Everyone I knew who had anything high risk with their pregnancy went to Madigan to see a specialist. Kind of a pain, but nice to have a free trip out of Alaska in winter. Of course, I realize that free is the only way you currently travel.

I was always happy to get more peeks at what/who was hanging out in my belly. You are even more my hero for being able to resist the urge to find out the sex knowing that ther will be more belly snooping! You have a will of steel!

Don't know if it helps at all, but I was high risk with all 3 of mine, under the care of all those perinatologists and neonatologist types, and 12, 10, and 4 years later, they are all healthy, driving-me-crazy boys!
I have a feeling everything will turn out fabulously!

I'm very glad your appointment went well. Can't wait to hear about your in-depth ultrasound. I'm sure it will calm your fears even more.

Well I think you should study up again on ultrasounds so you can see if it is a boy or a girl. You are killing me with this surprise thing!

You sound so calm about the high-risk pregnancy. Good for you! I hope the weeks will fly by and you will have a good rest of your pregnancy.

Yay for spring!
