Bring on the Bulbous

They say you "show" more quickly with your second and subsequent pregnancies. I am starting to believe them. I think you just never actually get your flat stomach back after the first and spend the next two years sucking it in. Then, when you hear you're pregnant again, you just take a deep breath and let it all hang out. But, let's compare anyway, shall we? Here I am at 15 weeks with Becca. Everyone made total fun of me for this picture. I turned around after it was snapped to find everyone laughing. At a poor pregnant woman! John swears I was just "pushing it out" because I desperately wanted to look pregnant. It was at John's sister's wedding (Hi Amy and Matt!) and I thought I was HUGE. That is so hilarious seeing how huge I actually did become by the end of the pregnancy. (I won't post the photos of my cankles.) But, I had just spent 20 minutes sobbing because I couldn't find anything to wear. I would not normally wear a T-shirt to someone's rehearsal dinner, but it was the only thing that fit!

Here I am at 15 weeks now. I put on a maternity T-shirt for the first time today and WHAMMO! I suddenly look pregnant. If I had only known back in 2005 to bust out with the maternity shirts early! Then I wouldn't have looked as though I'd just returned from a kegger and eaten a pizza buffet on the way out.

Is it just me or do you look darling in both? The only reason you look even slightly pregnant is that the rest of you is so gosh darned tiny! Have heard that the belly makes an appearance earlier in subsequent pregnancies but I don't know that you're truly proving that point. :) Stop worrying and enjoy every last minute of growing a baby (says the lady who is not currently doing that). You look great!

Okay, you look fricken great. Gag!

I was a fat cow each time. Even at 15-weeks. And, I hoped that nursing would help get weight off. NOPE. Lila is 17-months, still nursing, and I look at least five months pregnant. I'm too unmotivated (yet) to get it off the old-fashioned way (read: portion control and exercise).

Don't MAKE me post my cankle photos!!!! Don't do it! We'll all regret it!

Oh yeah, we definitely need to see the cankle photos! And, yeah, you were definitely pushing it out in the first photo. It is tough at the beginning when you feel like crap and you don't quite look pregnant yet. I wasn't in a hurry to wear maternity clothes either time.

I think people who are thin to begin with look pregnant earlier on, usually (except maybe Nicole Kidman). And the 2nd pregnancy certainly doesn't help with keeping the belly in! But you look cute in both of them! You definitely won't be mistaken for someone who just needs to cut down on the cookies!

I think you're showing more - at least from the pictures. And you may have something with the sucking it in and then just letting it hang out part - ha! I say wear the maternity stuff as early as possible to get the most out of it... but then you might be inviting all those strangers to come touch your stomach when they realize there's a pregnant lady among them.

Okay, I see you on a couple time a week basis and let me tell you you look good. I think you were pushing it out again for the picture. You can't even tell you are pregnant in person. And how many pounds have you gained... ENOUGH SAID!

Cankles! Cankles! Cankles! Just kidding! You look fabulous as always. Here we go with the pregnancy hating Katie...No worries, you are adorable. I remember really wanting to look pregnant with the first one. I just wanted everyone to know I was with child! Finally.

Uncle Jim, a cankle is an ankle that's fat, so you can't tell where the calf ends and ankle begins. Calf + ankle = cankle.

Katie, when I read "bulbous" I immediately thought something happened to you or Becca's nose...

Give me a break! Have you seen by preggo belly yet???? THAT is nothing. I do believe you show quicker with the second one for sure; however, by the looks of your tiny arms, you look thinner to me in the bottom one.

I just read your comment on my blog about the water wars. I hope you are wrong but have a feeling you are very right. Your words have been marked.

You are adorable!! I just bought the bulk of my maternity clothes 3 weeks ago. I have done everything possible to hide my belly and always get a little bummed when people ask me when I am due and continue to hope people won't notice (I am wierd about weight). Only having gained bulk in the middle, though, and not very many pounds I feel a little better about it.
