I think it has my cerebellum!

Week 16. We still have just one baby in there. I keep fearing it will multiply and turn into sextuplets and then we'll have to have a show about John and Kate plus 7 and I'll lose my mind and the entire show will feature me, curled in the fetal position under a dirty couch, with piles of snotty and filthy toddlers gnawing on my ankles.

But, everything looked good today. No crotch shot, so no news there. We're still having a surprise. They are looking to see if the baby is having problems due to my contracting Fifth Disease. There were no signs of fetal anemia today, but I have to go back EVERY WEEK until the end of May for an ultrasound just to be sure. The danger is usually over after 10 weeks have passed since the start of the infection. I'm already at week 5, so that is a good sign.

On the one hand, six free ultrasounds, whoo hoo! On the other hand, this kid isn't even born yet and it will have had more doctor's visits than I have in my entire life once you add in the regular OB appointments and all the specialist ultrasound appointments.

Today the baby refused to roll over onto its stomach. It just reclined in what looked to be a very squishy and comfortable hammock, which I am pretty sure was my full bladder, and occasionally punched or kicked the ultrasound probe. It would move its head around and squirm, but refused to turn over, despite the lady prodding and poking it. At one point it tried to suck its thumb. It weighs about 6 ounces. Is it just me, or is calling the poor thing "it" a lot just weird?

So, that's the latest from Lake Wobegone, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking and all the children are above average. (We hope.)

Please take this for a funny ha-ha snarky comment, and not a real judgement...

I've got a cure for the "call it "it" weirdness" you mention....

I'm totally kidding. I think its very cool that you get a delivery room surprise. Im just giving you a hard time.

Maryb--I know! I'm with you 100%! It is my husband who is ADAMANT that we not find out! I feel less strongly about it, so I'm letting him get his way, since it means so much to him! I have to admit, the surprise in the delivery room is pretty awesome, though!

What a great picture! It seems so clear - I don't remember mine being that in focus. Good to hear the baby doesn't have any problems with the fifth disease.

I called Kate 'he' all through my pregnancy. I was convinced she was a boy, but we didn't want to find out, so for convenience I just called her 'he/him'. Towards the end, Tim would say 'he' or 'she', just to give the kid a break. =) But I am with you - it is wonderful to get that delivery room surprise!

I will be VERY surprised if you don't figure it out before you deliver. I am not sure how you can have THAT many ultrasounds and be as good on the internet as you are and not figure out every little thing in the photo.

We always said he or she after awhile, just to avoid the "it" factor. And, I had an ultrasound every month and didn't know what we were having. Of course, they only focused on everything in the one big ultrasound, so I don't know how yours will be. I would have been very disappointed if I'd found out what I was having, though. I know that I haven't done it that way, but I just don't think it could be as nice of a surprise to find out early.

I wish I could be as strong as you and not find out, but I CAN'T DO IT! I would loose tons and tons of much needed sleep over it. A decaf. coffee cheers to you!

Glad to hear that things are going okay with the baby :) We must be due only a few days apart (I'm at 16 weeks tomorrow). Hope everything's going well. Love the prego pics!

Wow! You look great!!! You may have a little pooch in the front, but at least your back side is still small!!! My butt is huge! We love not finding out. I still think it might be a girl (for us) but my face is fuller and makes me think it could be a boy! 5 1/2 more weeks and we will see!
