My So Called Life

Whenever you don't see a post from me, you can assume one of two things: a) I'm busy....ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa...if you count wiping up pee and napping as busy; or b) John is in town and hogging up all my usual computer time.

This is one factor I didn't anticipate in switching to the airlines--the amount of time John has to spend on the computer--figuring out his schedule, bidding for his next schedule, shuffling his current schedule, checking to see if there are any changes, etc. And, when you have only one, it is a pain in the mommy blogging ASS. Although, this week he's been doing our taxes and getting documents together for our mortgage refinancing on the computer, so I guess I can't really complain. In fact, I'm downright thankful for all he's taken on, because if there is one thing in the world I hate more than vomit, it is doing taxes. But, hi! It's good to see y'all again!

So, guess who's a big freak? Come on! Just guess. Who among us is a total hypochondriac freak? Who would rush off to the urgent care center because she has a sore throat with white spots on her tonsils? Who? Not me. No, definitely not me. I would never do that. I would know that it is just an upper respiratory thing and not strep. Because I am not a freak. No, really. I'm not.

The bottom line is: pregnancy really doesn't agree with my body. My immune system apparently plummets to the lowest possible point, my hips seem to become disconnected from my body, I'm cold all the time, my ass hurts continually and I pull muscles just walking. Ahhhhh....yes. It is a lovely sight over here. Especially when you factor in the potty training debacle. Oh yes. Nothing but loveliness around here. As for that, I have quit. Just given up. We're back to diapers.

God, I miss wine.

So, since I have to find other, nonalcoholic forms of entertainment (lame), look what Becca and I did:
I've always wanted to start seeds inside and then tranfer them outside when it is warm enough, but I have never attempted it. I am not sure if it will even work, but we planted oregano, basil, rosemary, lavender, delphiniums and sweet peas.

And look what is about to bloom outside. I am so excited to see signs of spring, even if it means ants in the house and the sound of lawn mowers disturbing our upper respiratory-hazed naps.

you're just a wee little thing, so no wonder pregnancy is hard on you. i'm sorry, darlin, but glad to hear you're back to diapers. i was going to suggest giving up for now and trying again later. i've heard that you can't force a kid to be potty trained and that one day they just show interest in using the potty...but i have no personal experience in this arena, so whadda i know.

Oh Katie,
You need to be built like a german like I am and pregnancy would not be that hard on you :0) White spots are a sign of strep, so I would have gone to urgent care too, you are NOT a freak - well, not all the time!!

Yeah I know about the immune system. When I got pregnant with my second I got pneumonia and then had an allergic reaction to the medication. We potty trained our son last November just before he turned 2.5 but only because his best buddy was potty training and he wanted to do everything his friend was doing. Great motivation. I'd love to say the hips will get better but I've been having hip problems since I was 3months with number two. I'm due any day now and I'm hoping it gets better after delivery.

OMG!!!! Would you beleive that I have a post in my drafts folder about all the "computer time" the pilot spends on the computer at home?? It makes me CRAZY!!!!!! I mean like REALLY crazy. Especially when he tells me how the great thing about the airlines is that when he's not FLYING he's not working as opposed to the military where he had flying duties and a ground job too. HAHAHAHA! Between the reserves (which includes ground duties) and the schedule wrangling/elitt/bidding its like he has THREE jobs now. However, like you, Im thankful for all he does. I know that he spends so much of the time on the airline craziness to max out his pay and time at home for the things I beg him to be home for...I do get it, really I do. Sorry for hijacking your comments, but I never posted all this because noone would even understand the lingo enough to understand what i was trying to convey! In short, I hear ya, girlfriend!

Sorry pregnancy is wrecking havoc on you like this...maybe second trimester will see some relief? That was always the best for me. In fact, I was ridiculously happy all the time for that part. Glad to hear you gave up the potty training - you don't need that kind of frustration added to your plate.

I am a TOTAL hypochondriac. Just ask anyone who knows me. And, I always think EVERYTHING is strep!

Ok Mrs. Dr. Web-MD. I thought you were better at diagnosing than that. Come on, you're slipping.

And on the whole prego pains - I am in way more discomfort with this one, too. You would think with everything already stretched out that getting big would be easy but apparently it doesn't work that way. Why doesn't it work that way? Ugh. Not fair.

I was going to comment on your last post about potty training. I think the whole potty thing is overrated. Changing a diaper is much easier than trying to find a public restroom, much less a clean one.

And, I think pregnancy is tough on everyone, though I know some more than others. And, my second one was harder than my first, too, which also seemed odd.

I didn't realize all that John had to do for flying. I still don't get the bidding thing.

I also don't think you were a freak about this one.

When I was pregnant with Lila, I had a stomach bug every month and my first ear infection since I was a year old. It's a long story, but, I had an ENT tell me that I probably had otoschlosis (sp?). A hearing loss disease that often presents itself during pregnancy. Well, the hypocondriac that I am, I assumed he was probably right, even though the disease does not present itself during an ear infection and mine was so bad that nerve damage would be the more sensable diagnosis. He was just an idiot of a doctor. But, Matt was in Iraq and couldn't set me straight. So for months, I thought I was going deaf. Saw my sister's ENT in VT when I went for a long visit after the extension was announced and he LAUGHED at the mere thought of the disease. Especially since my hearing loss had cleared up by the time I saw him. None the less, when Dr. Kim at FWA found out I was perfectly fine, he sounded disappointed. I digress.

My hips also hurt really bad during pregnancy. Can you hit a pool? Jogging in place with "dumbbells" helped a lot with my pregnancy with Liv and chiropractic care (which I don't normally believe in) helped a TON with Lila's pregnancy.

Off to a cheese, bread and wine fest. I'll think of you when I'm downing my fifth glass of wine!

Ugh. I feel for you. When I was pregnant with Claire I kept wondering WTF I had been thinking! Another pregnancy? My body does not like it! But the babies are so darned cute. Sigh.

I hope you feel better soon.

I can't believe you planted seeds inside. I have always wanted to do that, too, but doubt I ever will!

Also, I 'borrowed' your 'pity party' tag. It is just too perfect.

Talk about creative! I always enjoy planting things and hope that the magic happens! I am so impatient with seeds now. I have to get them already in the 6pack! Good luck with the flowers!
