So, if anyone has any advice on how to change a boy's diaper without getting a shower, please....fill me in.
We have had a very calm, low-key weekend. The sun hasn't come out at all and life is just revolving around sleeping and eating for everyone. Becca isn't all that interested in Andrew yet. She did hold him for about two seconds before crying and saying she didn't want to hold him. She is also scared of his umbillical cord stump. Whenever I change his diaper she runs off and says, "I don't want to see that black thing!"
John was putting her to bed and was saying, "We'll all be here in the morning--Mommy, Daddy, Nana and Andrew." Becca said, "Not Andrew. He's just visiting." Sorry baby girl...but you're stuck with him.

I kept a nursing pad at the diaper changing place, and would put that as a shield over the little wiener while changing. It absorbed some of the sprinkling, but deflected the rest which was better than getting sprayed in the face.
So glad things are going well.
We would put a baby wipe or washcloth or whatever was available over Ben while changing him. Maybe it didn't absorb anything, but at least we didn't get a shower.

JUST VISITING!!! Now that is so funny!! She sounds so cute. He is a handsome baby! The sprinkling thing doesn't last too long. I don't think...or maybe I don't remember because I blocked it from my memories!
Ladies, guess where I just came from? I just got home from Mr. Sprinkles house and let me just say he is yummy! He has the perfect new baby smell. Oh I just LURVVV me some baby smell. I actually found myself thinking, as I was holding him, I could do this again. (of course I had to slap myself back to reality) I smelled my shirt the whole way home from their house because I could still smell him. Perfect he is, PERFECT!
Oh and thanks Katie and Nana for letting me hog him all night. I will be back soon to do it again!
I second the wash cloth. Nursing pads are like gold to me (I always find myself without any reusables clean and no disposables in the house) and I refuse to give them over to the baby. Washcloths work really well and absorb all the pee when he inevitably does it.
He is precious. I love that Becca thinks he is just visiting, I felt like that with Reid.
Can't say I have any advice in the boy department...yet! In a few weeks, or months, I'll be barking up your sleeve in full on panic mode. I'm thankful that we're having one of each, but nervous because I don't know what to expect with having a boy. Do you feel that way, or are things the same-same right now...other than getting sprayed?

Advice from Matty: open the diaper for one, brief second so that he feels the whisk of fresh air, then close the dirty diaper back over him for 30 seconds, during which time he (may) relieve himself.
I love the nursing pad, idea. I've also seen these little sponge cups designed for this purpose. Not sure if that's what the link is that feener sent. Haven't looked yet.
Ok, this is a comment for this post and your last post. Ok, I can't believe blood squirted into her mouth. Disgusting.
I would open the diaper, let it get aired then lightly close the diaper over the penis. They usually pee because of the cool air hitting the penis. Then after he pees into his already dirty diaper you can get the new one on.
We usually just kept a washcloth handy, which we called "the shield." But since Zach was born I've heard of a product called the "Weeblock." Saw one at Baby's R Us this weekend, but I've never used one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2533310
Your labor story is both inspiring and nerve-racking for me, as I only have 3 more months before I'll be in the same boat. Don't think I'll be taking a walk outside in December to get the ball rolling though... don't want to end up having this baby in the snow bank!

Capozzoli Clan here....my oldest son used to say about his younger brother when we brought him home and he realized he was not going away....."Mommy, I am going to throw Paulie in the garbage!" He has since gotten use to Paulie being here, but I am sure that he wishes he could throw him out somedays. Thought I would share with you because of Becca's comment about her younger bro.
Oh...the golden shower!!! After having 2 girls and then Luke, it was like learning all over again. Actually, we are still learning with Luke. Boys are just different! But great...
