Why Friends Rule

My friend from Austin, Meg, came up on Saturday (while her husband took care of both her kids!) to visit while John is out of town on a "deployment" to Florida. I use the word deployment lightly, as they are actually in an ocean front hotel/resort. The military really needs to get their lingo straightened out.

Anyway, I haven't had time to blog. Because I've been busy. Busy talking, drinking wine, laughing, eating, venting, laughing, sleeping and talking some more. After she walked in my front door on Saturday evening, we only left the house once as a group, and we regretted it. But, on Saturday afternoon, after I picked her up from the airport (childfree--Go Tracy, again! Hooray!) we had an adults only lunch (with bloody marys) in a cool neighborhood in Baltimore. That, we didn't regret.

Saturday night, Meg offered to watch Andrew all night so that I could sleep through the night for the first time in......well..if you count pregnancy insomnia.....about 6 months. It was heaven. I couldn't sleep through, though, because I had to wake up to pump because my poor boobs couldn't figure out what was going on...with all the sleeping for more than 3 hours at a time! I came out of my room at 6 a.m. to tell Becca to go back to sleep. And, when I walked in Becca's room, all the lights were on and she and Meg were playing with her toys while Becca ate Halloween candy. So, needless to say, we all really enjoyed Meg's visit.
Unfortunately for her, Andrew woke up that night every. forty-five. freaking. minutes. Oops. Sorry, Meg. After that, I didn't let her watch him at night, because I just couldn't believe that had happened to her. He is actually consistently only waking at 2 a.m. and 4 or 5 a.m. these days, which is a major improvement over a few weeks ago.

I love having time with just girls (and a baby).Last night we had Thin Mints, Doritos, Brie and wine for dinner. I felt mildly nauseous at the 2 a.m. waking, but it was worth it. I really enjoyed the past few days and was sad to see her go. We looked through ten million catalogs and got our Christmas lists all sorted out. And I had so much adult conversation and sleep that I felt my sanity return. I loved every second of it! Thank you for coming, Meg!

Sounds like SO much fun. Sleep! Yes!!!!!! Seriously, if my kids aren't waking me up with ruptured ear drums, sniffles, coughs, and pee runs, my husband is waking me up when he discovers himself, computer on lap, asleep on the couch at 3:00am. Then proceeds to go up stairs and brush his teeth, after he turns all the lights on in our bathroom and bedroom (read: wakes me up). If he would just stop working 17hrs/day, I think he could make it upstairs to bed w/o falling asleep on the couch and I, in turn, would get more sleep! Once I get woken up, it takes me up to an hour to get back to sleep! I digress...tanget talk here.

So glad to see you had a friend stay with you. Awesome!

If she ever wants to come to Fairbanks, I could use the sleep.
