Downturn....

Poor little Becca had to be admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon for (most likely) pneumonia. I took her into the pediatrician yesterday afternoon just to check out her breathing and her blood oxygen levels were really low. They told me to take her right to the ER. She was then admitted to the hospital.

I spent the night there last night and John is spending the night tonight. My mom flew in tonight and will stay home with Andrew so John and I can be at the hospital and running back and forth to sleep/shower/drop off breastmilk, etc.

They keep throwing around words like asthma, pneumonia, reactive airway something or other....but it is not entirely clear. But, she is on two antibiotics (one in case it is bacterial pneumonia, and one in case it is walking pneumonia), steroids, nebulizer treatments, oxygen and an IV. She is so pitiful!

Tracy and my neighbors have been taking care of Andrew round the clock. They have been amazing. Thank you, Tracy. You have no idea how great it is to not have to worry one second about him. I know he is in very capable hands!

I can't believe she went from almost acting normal on Tuesday to being so sick by Wednesday. This shit is SCARY.

She is stable and getting a little better, so we have high hopes that she'll be out of the hospital soon! I will update you when I know more. I have to get some sleep now!

Oh dear, Katie. I'm so sorry. Poor Becca. She doesn't seem to do any little sicknesses. No wonder you freak out about "a little virus!" Praying for Becca.

Oh, how AWFUL. You were right all along - she definitely was really sick. I hope that she will be better soon, that you will all get some rest, and that she'll be back to her normal self in no time. You're in my prayers.

Katie, so sorry to hear about this. It sounds a little bit like me when I was a young child. I could not handle any cold and at least once or twice a year, I got pneumonia. Finally, after a couple of years of trying to figure out how I was getting it and how to avoid it, our peds put me on asthma medicine every time I had a cold and cough combined. Back then, the meds weren't as advanced. But, it worked pretty well. Turns out, my little Olivia is the same. She now has an inhaler contraption thingie for each cold/cough. It remains to be seen if it will work for her, b/c we only tried it once and the results were so-so (it may not be the right medication for her-we have to experiment). Fortunately, our docter says most kids grow out of it when they hit puberity. Which I did. Anyway, rambling here.

Hang in there and I'll be praying for her quick recovery!

Poor babies!!! We prayed for Becca tonight before bed and Taylor wanted to know what color the germs were that got Becca so sick. Glad you mom is coming in. Moms always make everything better, no? You have got to have the worst health luck of anyone I've ever met! But now when John thinks you're overreacting, think how much leverage you'll have that he's wrong! In any case, this whole thing just sucks. We're sending big prayers your way. Let me know if I can help AT ALL. It's so maddening to be so far away! FYI, I don't think she has reactive airway disease. I've never heard of anyone needing to be hospitalized for that.

Oh, man, that is so scary. I bet it does feel good that someone else can do the monitoring of her, the deciding just exactly how sick she is. Still, I hope she's healed and home in no time!
