A Germaphobe's Nightmare

The school district in Texas that has closed all its schools FOR A WEEK because of swine flu? Is ONE STREET OVER from where I am currently sitting.

Go ahead. Just take a gander at my state of mind. I dare you.

I know. It's discusting! Unfortunately, this is what happens when governments allow CAFO farming (Confined Animal Farming Operation)! Not only are these animals prone to diseases (which is now being spread human to human) from standing in feces and other matter all day, they are sprayed down with antibiotics which get into our environment (think antibiotic resistant viruses).

I have a few British friends who say that Mad Cow Disease also started with CAFO animals.

You won't find me buying CAFO meat anymore. I'll be buying grass-fed, organic meat, preferably local so that I can visit the farm and speak to the owners. It's more expensive (but not always if you buy in bulk) but our family could eat less of it anyway...

Here's a site to find CAFO-free meat by State, if you're interested:

Don't hyperventilate! You'll breathe in more germs!

Me, too! I am irrationally freaked out. I stayed home from church yesterday in an attempt to avoid "public gatherings." Are you staying with family near the forum? I am just a couple miles down I-35. I would love to meet you for coffee (tex-mex?) or something but it would probably violate my strict rule against leaving my house right now.

Word verification (I kid you not) is "gravers!"

I assume we are erring on the side of caution.

I had a katie moment (read: germaphobe). We went to see my neighbor. The girls had been in their house for a few minutes by the time I reached the house. I said hi how are you? She said not so good, Ive been throwing up and out the other end all afternoon. PANIC!!! Then she said sit down. OMGOODNESS! It was all I could do not to run! Then the girls went and sat down next too her.. I thought I was going to pass out from panic! Needless to say, I am drinking liquor in hopes of killing anything.. or jus relieve the panic.

Oh and I think home (as in here and not Texas) is the place to be. So far not one of the states infected.
Sorry Bevo, with such great weather, we really miss them.

Are you in San Antonio or Austin? We are headed to S.A. on Wednesday and am freaking out a bit myself over swine flu exposure. I am NOT a germaphobe either so can only imagine how you are feeling. If you're still in town, would love to see you though.

Oh yeah, I had to take the kids to Randolph's Clinic today so I could go to my apt. I don't even want to go into detail the shit I came across. Everyone was in biohazard suits, masks, etc. Scared the living crap out of me!!!! I'm praying (shocker), that they don't catch something. I came home, sprayed them down (literally), and trashed the clothes (literally). I'm not f'ing with that crap!

Oh man.....I need to take a deep breath for you.

And here I've been hyperventilating because the Stomach flu is running its course something fierce and we've been exposed to not one, not two, not three or four but FIVE people with the stomach flu (most of them being people we got together with and then 12 hours later they were puking). And lets just say I've NOT been sleeping well at night wondering if I was going to be awoken at 1am with Nathan saying "Mommy I dont feel so... [BARF] "

I need to move somewhere that is sort of like a gated community....except its more like a bubbled community. A sterile environment if you will. Wanna come?
