Excuse Me Waiter, This Isn't What I Ordered

When I spent all last winter in a veritable hell of freezing temperatures, bitter winds and scraping barf off the floor while fantasizing about summer, this isn't what I had in mind.

Children wearing long sleeves and cooped up inside watching TV. It has been nonstop rainy and gloomy. And, frankly, I am sick of it. When I told myself all winter it was okay for Becca to watch TV, I rationalized it with the fact that she'd be outside! All summer! She had swim lessons yesterday in the rain and a temperature of 60 degrees. Her lips were blue and she was shivering. And, being clueless about summers where you need long sleeves, I only had a short sleeve cover up to dress her in afterwards. So I ran the blow drier over her entire self in the locker room before we left.

In other news, Andrew is cruising for multiple bruisings. He climbed up the entire staircase yesterday (I was right behind him). He pulls up on everything (he loves the dishwasher) and was pushing his toy piano across the floor this morning, walking behind it. But, he still isn't babbling, which has me kind of stressed out. Becca had two words by the time she was 10 months old. This kid hasn't so much as said mama or dada or gaga yet. I have heard a couple consonants, but they are very rare. He says "aaah" and "ehhh" and "mmmm" but that's about it. Right now he's saying "WWWWWWWWWWWWWAH!" Guess it is nap time.

Thanks for the heads-up! When it's 100 degrees in Austin (no exaggeration) and we are packing for a trip to Minnesota, it's hard to even THINK about long sleeves!

Don't worry about the talking! All my boys have been late in that department. I think boys just don't have as much to say as girls.

How the heck is Andrew climbing stairs and pulling on the dishwasher? Wasn't he just born, like, yesterday?! Time is seriously flying by.

I could use a little gloom and rain. It's hasn't been less than 90 in weeks here!!

And how is dear Andrew supposed to get a word in edgewise?????

I think boys are slower to talk than girls? I hope so. Luke is much younger than Andrew, but at our last well-baby check, the doctor asked if he was babbling and smiling. I started to freak out a little because although he is smiling, there is no babbling.

It was cooler than normal here for the past 2 weeks, and I was loving it. Of course, cooler than normal means 80s and low 90s. Tomorrow we're back to 100. Boo.

Also, I CANNOT believe Andrew is cruising. That is just plain crazy talk.

I remember thinking as a kid how weird it was that "summer sweaters" existed. I thought summer for everyone was like summer in the south, hot as hell. We have a pool in our building and hadn't been in it in a couple of weeks.

And, Christopher is just now making some sounds that Ashlyn was making at 6 months. We are getting him evaluated for speech, though. Boy or not, he is behind.

Its so crazy to see Andrew totally upright. Mackenzie is not even close to being able to crawl. The last few days she has lunged for things from a sitting position and she goes with such force she flops and then rolls onto her back....and shes bewildered as to what happened. Crazy how they are only a week or two apart and how much more mobile he is. :) I blame her chubby layers....its a lot of weight to move. And Nathan didn't crawl until 10 months so, anyway. Enough of me relaying my children's milestones in the comment section. I guess the idea of having the "baby" crawling doesn't even seem possible yet.

For whatever its worth its been raining here for abouuuuuut 2 1/2 weeks straight. I feel your pain.

For what it's worth, Katie walked at 9 months. Walked. Not holding on - just walked across the room. We thought she was headed for the Olympics. Turns out there is a large age-range of normal motor development. She had a wonderful neighborhood friend (hi, J!) who walked considerably later - guess who turned out to be the athlete?

I think you would be losing your mind if you had Reid. While he is very vocal and thinks he is talking (but isn't) he is NOT crawling. He is almost 11 months! I didn't even think about it until the beginning of this month and the doctors aren't concerned until 15 months. I don't think a lack of babble is a problem ;0)

Lila was way "behind" Olivia in the talking department. Second children often are, aren't they? Anyway, once Lila started talking, it was like she had always been talking. Complete sentences came out of her mouth very quickly.

I'm sure he's fine. Enjoy it while it lasts. You've already learned how young they are when they talk back and scream "no!"
