Please Tell Me There Is A Solution

Right. So teenagers are going to suck. We know that. Do you know what else sucks? Waking up at 5:30 a.m. every day because your baby refuses to sleep any later. I need some advice here, peeps. Every morning around 5:23 a.m. I hear the whining which quickly escalates into crying. Today it escalated into full on screaming. See? Look...still dark outside. As I see it, here are my options: a) let him cry it out, which wakes up Becca and makes the rest of my day less than ideal due to the whining and crap because she woke up too early--I have tried this option and after about 45 minutes he goes back to sleep, but Becca and I do not; b) jump up and race in there to silence him before he wakes Becca. Either way, I'm up at 5:30 a.m. which is not acceptable to me. He goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. At his age Becca was sleeping 12 straight hours. Something has to be fixed here.

It is before daylight, even in the summer. That shit is too early. Now I will sit here and down coffee and click refresh over and over until one of you solves my problem for me. (I hope.)

I HEAR YOU. The lack of sleep thing with the prospect of a LONG DAY AT HOME is awful. Awful!

Ever let them come into bed with you in the morning? I try that, but they never last but one painfully optimistic minute, then they're all jumping on the bed and throwing toys on my head.

Unfortunately, the bed thing has NEVER EVER EVER worked for me. EVER. I don't know why. It is like they just go bonkers once there. Bed=Big Jungle Gym!

Not sure if you have one in Becca's room, but the vornado fan works wonders for drowning out noise! I've had one in Olivia's room ever since birth and now we can't even travel without it. Trade off's I guess. But, we've been able to have a party of 50 in the house and with that thing on, she sleeps right through everything. Target = $10!

I was going to suggest bringing him into your bed. Does he take a pacifier? If you put him to bed later, will he sleep later (my daughter will, my J is up at the same time of day regardless of when he goes to bed).

Also, we have this neat nightlight thing that we got for Maureen when she was a baby that plays soft music and beams pictures on the ceiling. I think it's by Tomy, but I'll have to dig it out and look later. It kept her quiet long enough that she would sometimes go back to sleep.

The only other option I can think of is going to bed yourself at 8AM out self defense.

Christopher has been waking up around 5:30. No matter what I do, he seems to wake up Ashlyn. I have been bringing him into bed with me, not because he will sleep, but so I can get him quiet and hopefully not bother Ashlyn too much.

I've got no good advice. But he looks so cute standing up at the chair! Does he eat right away when he gets up? Maybe a bedtime snack of some kind will make him hungry later and make him wake later? Watch him start sleeping til 8 and you start waking at 5 anyway now!

You could always try the electronic babysitter. Plop him in a playpen with some quiet toys and the tv, while you crash on the couch. Sarah used to wake up in the middle of the night and be ready to play for a couple of hours before finally going back to sleep. That was miserable!

That just sucks. And you know the minute you get Andrew sleeping longer, Becca will wake up at 5 and wake him up. Sorry, August always makes me crabby and pessimistic. Some of my friends who have kids with ADD (who are therefore on stimulants) swear by liquid melatonin. It's an herbal sleep enhancer. Obvsly Andrew's too young for it, but maybe it would help Becca sleep thru it. It's been on my to do list for weeks to find some for Taylor, who's room now faces a busy street so she gets up at the crack of dawn. Worth a try maybe.

We had a dresser at the end of the crib, and I put a paper cup there with Cheerios in it after they were asleep. Morning comes and the Cheerios and toys on the dresser get dragged into the crib, buying a few extra minutes of sleep for Mom.

Liberation is when the kids can get their own Cheerios and turn on the TV by themselves in the early morning!

Bevo, I thought liberation was when the kids leave home and the dog dies!
