*Update at Bottom! * Action? No? Don't Know!?

Tonight may be the night. I'm contracting every 4 or 5 minutes, but they aren't really getting that much more intense, so I'm not sure. I hate this part about labor. Am I? Am I not? What do I do? I hate being a freak about everything, but I can't help it. The nurse practitioner did a membrane sweep at my appointment and I think she set something into motion. In fact, I went back in about 3 hours after my appointment because I felt like something was happening and I had progressed another 0.5 cm. Just so the whole world knows the state of my cervix, I am 2.5 cm and 100% effaced, baby at zero station (at the starting gate!) So.....well...I just don't know. She said the contractions will either get closer together and more intense or further apart and peter out. So far they have gotten closer together but not more intense. She didn't tell me what to do in that scenario.....

We'll see. I'll keep you posted!

*Update*
Well, I went in to Labor and Delivery, contracting every 4 minutes. Was 3 cm. They said they were going to admit me. Took my blood started the IV line, then.....the contractions just STOPPED.

So we got sent home. Of course, the MINUTE I stood up to get dressed they started back up and are still every 4 or 5 minutes...they are hurting more. I'm so terrified to be home, but I don't know what else to do. They say I am not in enough pain yet and to wait until I can't talk through them.....

John is so tired and almost fell asleep driving home and I'm totally tired too. We're going to try to sleep and just see what happens. I'm just trying not to freak out because this is what happened with Becca when I almost gave birth at home. So, let's just hope that doesn't happen again! But I was in more pain when sent home with her. I guess I am just in "wait for the pain" mode. Oh boy.

Also, Tracy will post a blog update when the baby arrives, so there will be instant cyber news! Thank you all for the well wishes. Here comes another contraction, but I can type through it. So it isn't labor? Or something? I guess? Why is it so confusing?

Ooooo! How exciting! I remember that part of the end of pregnancy well. Seems like there were many nights of "Am I?" before the actual thing... then again, I wasn't dilated OR effaced, so I have a lot of hope that this is IT for you! =)

(And then you wouldn't have to decide about induction. Bonus!)

My guess was tomorrow, so this is exactly when you should be getting on the whole contraction thing. Good work!

AAack, I can't wait to find out if it is a boy or girl!!!!! Do John, Jim or JoAnne have instructions to blog in the event you have the baby?

AAACCKKK!!! The anticipation is going to kill me! Ha! I say that like its not driving YOU to insanity!

This is just so exciting!

If you have statcounter or sitemeter, Il'' be the one checking your blog every five minutes!

And, seriously, take it from me, if Becca came fairly quickly for a first-born then err on the side of caution. Don't be embarrassed of you make make several trips to L&D. they too would rather you be cautious - they want you to deliver safely ensconced in your room and not some crazy place or at home.

Okay, Im back to obsessing boy or girl, boy or girl.

Hey Brutus,

Remember I hedged my bets?? I guessed the 18th - which is tomorrow - but, was planning to come on the 20th. NOW with all this "action" I've decided to come to Maryland TOMORROW no matter what! I just can't remain so far away. So do you still owe me a million dollars? How do you know I wasn't coming on the 18th all along?? Love, Bevo

Eeeh! I never got to go through all that excitement/anxiety (breech baby-c-section all along) and I can barely stand the excitement for you! Bet baby is on his/her way! Lots of good thoughts and prayers your way! Can't wait to hear!

Not to throw a wrench in your works, BUT, be careful..this is what happened to me...my labor was so relatively painless that no one thought it was real labor - HAHA! Joke was on them. Something about my anatomy...contractions don't hurt until you break my water, THEN, OH BOY!!! we'd need a new word for that pain.

Still so excited for you and your family. Best wishes for a smooth, enjoyable, blessed event filled with love and joy! Whenever it happens!

DUDE!!! NO KIDDING!! MY WORD VERIFICATION IS "ibnlbr"!!! Doe sthat equal "I be in labor?"

How exciting!!! I'm biting my nails over here.

I totally know what you mean about the not knowing. There has GOT to be a better way of knowing! Hope all goes well tonight.

Ok, I hope that you've already had that baby. It is exciting. Scheduled c-sections just miss some of that excitement.

I was told with Ashlyn that I would know when it was the real thing. I so did not know when it was the real thing. I was in labor and so disappointed, because the contractions had slowed down. That was how I ended up driving myself to the hospital in labor! I knew I was miserable, but didn't think it was labor. Even when I was admitted, my contractions were not consistent. Some would be intense, and then they would be a bit calmer. And timing, could not be more inconsistent.

So, sorry for the long post. I hope that you are holding your sweet baby as I write.

A
PS too Bad you don't have a nurse friend there to help move things along more quickly like the doc from Wainwright suggested! HA!
