Life in Stepford

We just got written up by the homeowners' association for having a trash can in public view. This might just be worse than the military! I shouldn't complain, because I elected to live here and one of the reasons I did was that the neighborhood just looked so nice and clean. So, there you go.

But, where are you supposed to put the dog doo that you carefully pick up on walks? In your garage? Because....ew.... Maybe the homeowners' association would prefer I not pick up the dog doo and just leave it near the elementary school.

I would tell them where to go, and it wouldn't be pretty. That is such a dumb rule. Who gives?

How DARE you leave a trashcan in public view? I would be so ashamed, Katie.

Heh, I don't think anyone puts a trashcan other than in public view in our neighborhood. We certainly leave ours out, no garage.

It does sound a bit like the military, though. We were written up once for not mowing our lawn, when it hadn't even been a week. You just had to do it on the weekend, just like your neighbors, or you looked bad.

Maybe you should just let that weed grow on the side of your house and then you can hide the can behind that!

Wow. So I guess I can't ask you to store my car on blocks in your front yard?

We got a letter for the weeds growing in the rocks in our front and side yards. They took pictures and put them on file even. It made me mad. So mad that I think when we finally have a more permanent home I hope there's no HOA involved. We also have the trash can out of view rule, but a cement walled back yard. Pretty much anything goes in the neighborhood as long as your neighbors can't see! Boo! I wonder what they'd do if we didn't get rid of the weeds. Our neighbor behind us probably got a notice the same time we did (weeks ago) and just today was out spraying... or else some other random neighbor decided to do it for them. I definitely have sympathy for not wanting to poo smell in the garage! They probably have a rule against putting up a garbage can screen, too.

WHAT?!?! That is so retarded! What happens when you get written-up? Is there a fee? Wow, I really can't believe that.

There isn't a fee...they just tell you to remove your trash can from public view. WHATEVER!

I wonder why the HOA can't do anything about the STUPID ASSHOLE with the race car engine who revs up and down the street at all hours of the night and early morning. THAT is a nuisance.

I love not having an HOA, I got enough hassel on base! Tell them where to stick it.

Trash can in view? WTF? HOAs are a double-edged sword, though, huh? They make the neighborhoods look so nice, but they can be so strict! That's why we opted for a trashy 'old' neighborhood, where people park their cars where the grass should be, and let the weeds run free. I guess that also describes most of Tucson...huh.
